An Orange County businessman is taking marketing advantage of one of the Super Bowl XLIII TV commercials that will be in 3-D.
The commercial is itself a marketing gimmick dreamed up by Intel and DreamWorks to promote the 3-D glasses for Super Bowl ad upcoming Monsters vs Aliens animated movie.
You can get the paper 3-D glasses at Pepsi displays for free at a lot of retailers. I got mine this morning at Wal-Mart. But after the commercial, don’t throw the 3D glasses away, says Mitch Goldstone, partner of ScanMyPhotos.com in Irvine, and one of the most creative small-business marketers around.
Just include the 3-D glasses with your photos for scanning and ScanMyPhotos will give you a $10 discount off its standard $64 service of scanning and making digital images of up to 1,000. Or if you’d rather, receive an extra DVD of your scanned pictures.
You have to mail your order before Feb. 15. Only one discount per customer. Some restrictions apply.
“This is also a story of instant Web 2.0 marketing,” Goldstone says. “The challenges were more of an entrepreneurial ‘Amazing Race’ to see how quickly we could gain traction from our independent and entirely unaffiliated promotion that coincides with the monstrously large interest in Sunday’s football game.”
To get the word out, ScanMyPhotos is using Twitter, and its blog Tales from the World of Photo Scanning. Goldstone says the 3-D glasses will be recycled as an
eco-friendly program to have it safely discarded.
